Alamo

REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!!

The Alamo And The Missions Step inside any of the five historic missions, and travel back in time and into the lives of the early Spanish settlers who founded what would later become the city of San Antonio. Begin your historic journey at the Alamo, first established as Mission San Antonio DeValero in 1718. Now known as one of the most pivotal battle sites in the country, the Alamo became a military outpost in 1793, cementing its iconic role as a central locale on Texas’ road to independence.

Welcome to a city bestowed with well over 300 years of traditions and heritage—a city where the real captivating stories of the past are as alive as the promise of our vibrant, true future. Museums representing all aspects of our diverse history, a Fiesta celebration like no other, hosts of exciting family-friendly rides and attractions, and scores of special events throughout the year await you in San Antonio. Take in our famed River Walk and Historic Market Square, stunning murals, World Heritage San Antonio Missions (Texas’ only UNESCO World Heritage site!), and our world class culinary scene. The many flavors of San Antonio reflect the wealth of culture, traditions, and history found here. Indeed, the vast array of eateries and years of culinary traditions found in the Alamo City led to our designation by UNESCO as a Creative City of Gastronomy. Whether planning a day trip, a fun-filled family vacation, a romantic getaway, or a one-of-a-kind gastronomic journey, San Antonio is the destination for you. We are happy to be your guide as you get to know our beautiful city.

AMEDD MUSEUM INFORMATION:

The AMEDD Museum Foundation was formed to promote the promulgation and preservation of Army medical legacy and heritage.  The Foundation works to provide financial support for enhancing the artifact collections and museum infrastructure; holding appropriate ceremonies in honor of AMEDD personnel, units, and events; and educating a diverse and worldwide audience of the significance of AMEDD contributions.

Today, the Foundation sustains the legacy and heritage of the Army Medical Department, while educating diverse populations, enhancing the Museum’s facilities and collections, and honoring the men and women who make up the finest military medical system in the world. This summer in particular, we celebrate the past as we plan for the future.

While we salute the accomplishments of the past quarter century, we eagerly look forward to the next 25 years. Our long-term plans for the Museum underscore the Foundation’s current dedication to keeping the dream of our original founders active and vibrant. Our Building and Grounds Committee is engaged in a contracted museum master planning effort to identify the facility requirements of the future. Our Executive Committee is working with a group of skilled educators to develop a training program for our docents. We continue to enhance our Gift Shop operations, stocking its shelves with items that are appealing to our customers. These are just three of the initiatives your Board is pursuing to move the Museum forward.

If you have not visited the Museum recently, stop by and stroll the Museum collections and grounds. Several new facilities and displays such as the amphitheater, Medal of Honor Walk, and H-19 Chickasaw helicopter stand as monuments to those AMEDD Personnel who overcame every obstacle to aid the fallen. Come and relive their stories.

We will be taking school busses that will be graciously supplied by the Joint Base San Antonion and the Candlewood Suites.

American Airmen Heritage Museum

The Fort Sam Houston Museum tells the story of Fort Sam Houston from its beginning in 1845 as the Post at San Antonio to the present day. It also highlights the close relationship between the Post and San Antonio -- "Military City, USA" -- with roots extending back to the Spanish presidio of 1718.

Artifacts, images, and stories share the events and people that transformed a small Post and quartermaster depot into one of the nation's largest military installations by the start of the 19th-Century, then follows the post's impact on military readiness into the modern era and today.

Housed in a National Historic Landmark structure built in 1876, the museum looks out on the iconic Fort Sam Houston Quadrangle, with its centerpiece Clock Tower and the home of Fort Sam's peafowl and deer who have been part of the scenic landscape for more than 130 years.

The enlisted Airman is the backbone of the US Air Force. Since the early beginnings of the aviation service in the 1900s, and even more dramatically so in current global environments, enlisted airmen have been pivotal in the defense of our nation. Today’s Air Force mission to “Fly, Fight, and Win” would not be possible without the skillful, valiant, and unselfish contributions and sacrifices of our enlisted American airmen. Yet, there is no adequate place today for our nation to pay tribute to the proud heritage, tradition of honor, and legacy of valor of our enlisted men and women.

The Mission of the Airman Heritage Foundation is to support the USAF Airman Heritage Museum and other heritage-related activities in preserving and honoring the history and heritage of enlisted airmen. To this end, the Foundation will:

1. Increased Awareness of the US Air Force and USAF Airman Heritage Museum in preserving and honoring the history, heritage, traditions, culture and legacy of enlisted airmen.

2.Educate current and future airmen and the general public about the US Air Force and the role enlisted airmen have played in the success of the greatest Air, Space, and Cyberspace Power in the World.

3.Create a learning and developmental platform to enhance the Character of current and future Airmen through information, education, and professional development.

4.Support the USAF Airman Heritage Museum by raising private funds and providing additional resources and financial support for those museum and heritage-related activities not fully funded by the Air Force.

Our Vision is to build a new (USAF Airman Heritage Museum) state of the art, learning resource, and development facility that will preserve and display the proud heritage, countless sacrifices, and significant achievements of enlisted airmen and be a source of education about their rich history.
