The Dixon Nose is the New Crew Compartment
The unraveling of the mystery as to why the whole crew was not recovered could not be easily explained until the entire puzzle of the major parts of the wreck was assembled.
Effectively that was what was accomplished when the aft fuselage site was rediscovered in 2016. Keep in mind that the recovery team in 1948 was at this exact spot. The two wreck sites lay separated by 2/10 mile of mangrove forest and most importantly while the nose was underwater, the aft fuselage was on dry land.
At the time of discovery Mikita realized what this meant. It pointed a big arrow at the nose. The NOSE IS THE NEW COMPARTMENT! Now he felt very confident that the nose section was never associated with the original wreck site until now. He and his son Christopher went back out to the nose section and started mapping the debris field, knowing full well the gravity of what was now realized...they were stepping around Dixon's, Wilson's, Tenton's and possibly Biggerstaff, Duncan and Sarles remains.
No, the nose wasn't a NEW discovery, it was found in 1994, but in terms of repatriation efforts it was new.
